We shared the romantic story of how Amaretto was invented. This week, we take you back to Italy in the 17th century with yet another romantic story, about a princess, a botanist and the discovery of an orange blossom!

During the 17th century, a botanist made the discovery of a particularly fragrant type of orange blossom, which he decided to name “Neroli Bigarade” after Princess Nerola, the daughter of the ruler of the town in which it was found. Word got to the princess that the blossom was named in her honor; she was so delighted that she took to wearing a perfume made of the fragrant blossoms. And some legends claim that the botanist and the princess fell in love and were married! However, as town records of the time are few, these claims remain unsupported. But we like to think that the legends have at least a little truth to them. Over the following centuries, orange blossoms would quickly come to symbolize the western ideal of love and marriage and their popularity only grew. The blossoms were used in everything from garlands to bouquets! At the time it was said that the scent of orange blossoms could cause anyone to fall in love!

While we can’t guarantee that our Oolong Orange Blossom tea will cause anyone to fall in love, we’re pretty sure you’ll fall in love with the tea itself! Blended with semi-fermented oolong from Taiwan, Ceylon black tea, Jasmine petals and dried orange pieces that recreate the fragrant aroma of Victorian era orange blossoms. Get yours here!

Add a little "Olde Time Romance" to your Valentine's day with our "Artizan" Gypsy Kiss Tea. Inspired by a romantic story of how a handsome Romanian Gentleman, Constantine Penachuk, wooed a Stavely, Alberta homestead girl, Alice Tinkess. Theirs was a two year long chaperoned romance, ending in marriage. According to Constantine, it was his "Gypsy Kiss" that stole her heart. We at TeaZehri were so inspired by this romantic story that we just had to make a tea in tribute.

Gypsy Kiss is a herb and fruit mix known as a "Tisane Tea". A lovely blend of apple, strawberry, apricot, papaya, rosehips, currants, calendula petals, hibiscus petals and natural flavorings.

Legend has it that the aromatic liqueur made from almonds, burnt sugar and a blend of 17 herbs and fruits, known as Amaretto was made by the daughter of an innkeeper in Sarronno, a small town near Milan, as a “love potion”. The legends says that in the 1500’s the young woman was posing for a local artist that had been commissioned to paint a fresco in a local basilica, the Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie.

While posing for the artist it is said that she became so smitten with him she immediately began concocting the liqueur to win his affections. And as the legend goes, it worked! Now roughly 500 years later we have this magnificent beverage, which has inspired us to create a tea just as aromatic and romantic as the liqueur it is inspired by! Our Ciao Amaretto tea with it's warm, enticing almond notes, light cherry notes and subtle floral notes, will not disappoint!
